Meadville Lombard Theological School’s Board of Trustees resolved in May 2009 to develop a mission-based direction by the end of 2009 that will lead to the School’s long term financial sustainability. To that end, the Board’s Executive Team introduces the following resolution:
WHEREAS, Andover Newton Theological School and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School are in the process of creating an innovative partnership based on a new vision for theological education that includes new curricular approaches, new models of governance and addresses issues of financial sustainability, and;
WHEREAS, Meadville Lombard, as a result of the research conducted by the Board of Trustees, has been invited to enter this ongoing envisioning process with the understanding that such a partnership with these two schools (and perhaps others) would allow Meadville Lombard to provide identity based ministerial formation for Unitarian Universalism and maintain its unique, innovative educational model.
Because of the complexity of such a process and the myriad challenges it presents, it is resolved that Meadville Lombard Theological School will begin this process by entering into a discussion with Andover Newton Theological School in which the possibilities of a formal entrance into the emerging partnership among all three schools (and perhaps others) are developed. The Executive Team of the Board of Trustees is authorized to continue to manage this process on behalf of the Board and to make reports back to the Board as the Team deems appropriate. The Executive Team may only enter into formal agreements with other parties with the approval of the Board of Trustees.
